J.P. will bring a culture of public safety back to our city. In their spare time, J.P. and Lauren enjoy going to movies and are currently on a tour of the Fifty State Capitol buildings and have visited 41 capitols in their quest to learn more about our great country and the people who live there.
Brian L. Schwalb is a third-generation Washingtonian who has dedicated his legal career to serving others. After graduating from Duke University and Harvard Law School, he completed a judicial clerkship and went on to serve as a trial attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice. In private practice, Brian represented individuals, businesses, nonprofits, and families in high-stakes matters, including advocating for victims of excessive or unconstitutional police force, those defrauded of their assets, and clients facing the death penalty. Before his election as Attorney General for the District of Columbia, Brian was an accomplished law firm leader, serving as Venable’s firm-wide Vice Chairman and Partner-in-Charge of the DC office.
Since January 2023, Brian has been serving as DC’s second independent, elected Attorney General and is currently seeking reelection to a second term. Brian is a champion for DC residents and a guardian of Home Rule–defending consumers, seniors, workers, and the environment while protecting DC’s autonomy. Brian works to ensure that the law serves the people of the District, making it a safer, stronger, and more affordable city for all who live, work, and visit here.
